Alice Ruth (Knodel) Johnson, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2020, at Northridge Care Center. She was born April 20, 1924 in Kaylor, South Dakota, the daughter of Emanuel and Jennie Mae (Miller) Knodel.
Alice graduated from Pierre High School, Class of 1943. She was employed as a secretary at the State Capital. Alice married William Carl (Bill) Johnson on March 8, 1953 in a double ceremony with her sister, Minnie. They were married for 43 years until Bill’s death in 1996. She and Bill were league bowlers and competitive square dancers. Alice was an avid card player and permanent fixture at the Crystal Senior Center. In later years they traveled extensively, including Alaska and Germany. She was active in Eastern Star, Job’s Daughters and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, and ten siblings. She is survived by her children, Candist (Johnson) Luchsinger (Jim), William Carl (Bill) Johnson Jr. (Cindy), Loreen (Johnson) Kramer (Pete) and Lenore Charlotte Johnson; eight grandchildren, Eric Luchsinger (Laura), Aaron Johnson (Heather), Rusty Luchsinger (Nicole), Ben Kramer (Kaitlin), Nathan Johnson (Laura), Ashley Johnson, Samantha (Kramer) Joseph (Kel), Kylee (Johnson) Belstler (Jeff); seven great-grandchildren, Sophie (Greyson) & Aiden Luchsinger, Mya & Claire Johnson, Ellie & Leif Kramer and Arlo Johnson; and one brother, Orval Knodel of Overland Park, KS.
A memorial service will be on Friday, October 9, at 10:30AM at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home 6000 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Center, MN with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Fort Snelling. Alice’s favorite charities were, VFW (vfwauxiliary.org), USO (uso.org), Prader-Willi Association (pwsausa.org) and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org). If attending the service, please wear patriotic attire in her honor.

Evans-Nordby funeral chapel in Osseo, MN handled my husband’s cremation and Celebration of Life service in July of 2023. I can’t say enough positive things about all aspects of my interactions with them. They reached out to help every step of the way—from planning the Celebration of Life service, the service itself, and after care contact. Brittney was the person I primarily worked with. She was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, and had great communication skills, which greatly helped in reducing my stress level. I plan to contact Evans-Nordby soon to pre-plan my own final arrangements.
