Obituary for David John Langsdale

David John Langsdale, 74, of Maple Grove, MN, passed away on December 5, 2022 of natural causes after beating Multiple Sclerosis for 47 years.

Dave was born on October 4, 1948 to Neal and Eleanor Langsdale in Minneapolis. After Dave graduated from Cooper HS in 1966, he met the love of his life, Janis Ann Johnson, at Ryan’s Ballroom in Plymouth. Dave and Jan eloped to Michigan not long thereafter (long story) and were married on March 18, 1968. Dave enlisted in the Coast Guard after high school where he got to experience both the Arctic and Antarctic on-board US Coast Guard Cutter Burton Island as an RM2 Radio-man. He and Jan were stationed from coast to coast over those 4 years, from Staten Island, NY to Long Beach, CA.

After the Coast Guard, Dave and Jan settled back in MN and started a family. Dave is survived by Jan, his wife and caregiver for 54 years; and their four children, sons, Trevor (Lori), Troy (Kim) and Matthew (Jaime Lea) and daughter, Jenna (Chris Tauscheck), and 2 brothers, Jim and Steve. Preceded in death by parents, Neal and Eleanor and sister, Laurie.

Dave has 14 grandchildren, Ryder, Blake, Tate, Cameron, Ellery, Clara, Sophie, Deacon, Cullen, Sadie, Jude, Tessa, Reid, Demi and he loved nothing more than watching their sporting events, whether that was in-person in Minnesota or over streaming video for his grandchildren who live in NJ and TX.

After graduating with a degree from the University of Minnesota in 1979, Dave spent over 20 years in the US Postal Service, finally retiring as Postmaster of Champlin in 1994. Starting in 1995, Dave and his family began vacationing in Hawaii. It was his home-away-from-home; he loved showing friends & family the island and sitting in his spot watching the sunsets.

Dave never let MS define him. That spirit and toughness will live on through the generations.
