Following one hundred years of life lived in love, Florence Lorene Pickering (nee Shaske) entered into eternal rest and joy on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. She was welcomed to heaven by her savior Jesus Christ, her beloved husband, Gordon Pickering; and many family members, including: Parents, Frank and Florence Shaske; Sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Cla Gault; Daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Roger Nelson; Daughter Carolyn Kranz and; great granddaughter, Lilly Kranz. Those still living out her earthly legacy include: Son, Roger (Alice) Pickering; Son-in-law, David Kranz; Grandchildren, Helen (Tim) Casselberry, Gordon (Jenni) Pickering, Douglas (Sarah) Kranz, Daniel Kranz and Matthew Nelson; Great- grandchildren, Maren and Benjamin Casselberry. There are also nieces and nephews that she loved so well.
Lorene was born and raised in Virginia, Minnesota. She first worked as a secretary at W.A. Fisher Co. where she first met Gordon. She knew at the time that he was the one she was going to marry. She then worked as a secretary for the president of the Virginia Junior College. After the war, Gordon sought her out and they were married in 1947 and moved to Minneapolis. After moving down, she started work at Graco Inc. where she continued to work until her retirement.
Lorene’s impact and presence may still be felt wherever music is played, laughter is shared, strangers are welcomed, coffee is poured, dessert is offered; wherever lefse, pasties, and cookies are made; wherever good deeds are done in secret; wherever grace is extended; and most importantly, wherever selflessness and love prevail.
Private graveside service was held 4/5/21 and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Presbyterian Homes & Services - Eaglecrest. Please note Donations-Florence on memo line of check. The address is 2955 Lincoln Drive; Roseville, MN 55113.
I highly recommend the team at Evans Nordby. This past weekend, they assisted as we buried my mom. Twelve years ago, they assisted as we buried my dad. Brittney and the staff are so comforting, easy to work with and compassionate. They make every decision simple, and the whole process as painless as possible. I am so happy that we chose this funeral home, and encourage you to consider using them in your time of need.
