Gary Armstead, age 55 of Blaine, MN.

After a valiant battle with brain cancer, Gary went home to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep on June 27th, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife, Belinda; children, Cora Armstead (Zachary Boyle), Jasmine Davis, Miles Armstead, Bryce Armstead & Trinity Gardner; parents, Patricia Armstead & Jimmy Sims; siblings; Roxanne (Antonio) Muse & James Sims; cousins, niece & nephews, and countless dear friends.

We bid farewell to a remarkable man whose journey from humble beginnings in the tough streets of Chicago, to becoming a pillar of strength and compassion in Minnesota, is a testament to his spirit. Gary was set on building his life in Minnesota, earning his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Minnesota. In 2001, he began his career as a juvenile corrections officer at the Hennepin County Home School. In 2006, transitioning to child protection services within Hennepin County, he continued to demonstrate his unwavering dedication for over two decades. As a social worker, he worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children and families, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike.

Diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma in 2022, Gary faced his diagnosis with courage and determination. Despite his illness, he continued to serve passionately as a senior social worker for Hennepin County, until his retirement in 2024.

Gary was a published author of five books, each a testament to his intellect and creativity. His love for literature and writing was matched only by his dedication to his family. His life was forever transformed when he met Belinda, the love of his life. They tied the knot in 2022, his happiness with Belinda illuminated every aspect of his life. Together, they cherished moments of dance, travel, and quiet evenings listening to soulful music. Their love was a source of strength and inspiration, guiding him through the challenges he faced, including his courageous battle with brain cancer. Above all else, Gary cherished his role as a father. His love for his children was unparalleled. His legacy of parental love and professional dedication will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.

A Funeral Service will be held at Living Word Christian Center, 9201 75th Ave N, Brooklyn Park, MN on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, at 12:00 PM, with a visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.

Gary, though you may be gone from our sight, your spirit will continue to guide and inspire us to embrace compassion, and to strive for a better world.
