Obituary for Harold J. Spoden

Harold J. “Harry” Spoden, age 91, of Brooklyn Center, MN, passed away at home on January 26, 2022. He was born on April 21, 1930, in Cold Spring, MN, son of Joseph and Winifred (Fink) Spoden. Harry was a gentle and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his family and he was loved dearly during his full and beautiful life.

Harry proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, from 1952 to 1954. Upon his return from service, he continued his career with Our Own Hardware, retiring as Corporate Transportation Manager in 1993 after 42 years of service.

He married his devoted wife Margery on June 23, 1956. They were married for 65 wonderful years. They have three sons, Greg (Jodi), Thomas (Kimberly), and Bill; and three grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, and Emily.

Harry was a charter member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was a dedicated community volunteer, generously giving his time and gifts to others. Harry’s passions included spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, ice fishing, bird watching, weather observing, and rooting for Minnesota sports teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Raymond, Marcus, Arthur, Joseph, Clarence, and Allie Spoden. He is survived by his wife; sons; grandchildren; daughters-in-law; sister, Rosie Pfannenstein; sisters-in-law, Jean, Joan, and Carol Spoden; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Friday, February 4th, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave. N, Brooklyn Center, MN. Visitation at 10 AM, Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM, and a luncheon to follow. The family requests that masks be worn. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Harry. The service will be streamed via Facebook at facebook.com/St.AlphonsusMN.
