Joan Agnes Cook (née Slavin) of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was surrounded by love and family. Joan is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dan Cook; parents, Margret and John; younger brother, Pat; and grandchildren, Corey and Chase.
She is mourned by her sister, Carol (Tim) Dalton; children, Lisa (Rob) Strauch, Pam Cook, and Michael (Denise) Cook; grandchildren, Adam Strauch (Katie Ralph), Gage Strauch and William Cook; as well as her numerous great-grandchildren, Kylee, Aleciah, Aidah, Kayden, Daniel, and Ayden.
Joan was a beloved member of the community serving both as a manager of several restaurants and as a volunteer at her local churches, Our Lady of Victory and St. Alphonsus. She was able to touch the lives of many through her professional work and personal commitments.
In addition to her volunteer work and commitment to her faith journey Joan was an avid reader, wine connoisseur and ferocious walker.
Over the past decade Joan endured her dementia with a brave heart and a determination to live each day fully. Joan was adamant that she was going to thrive with this disease and outlive any prognosis given, and she did.
Joan loved her Irish heritage, investigating the family tree, and the color green which as she proclaimed often and with joy, ‘matched her eyes.’ She will be missed dearly by all those who knew (and there were many). As she often reminded us ‘when you work with public like I do you get to know a lot of people.’ How lucky for us all.

These people are wonderful. They went over and above in every possible way to help us with funeral arrangements, the visitation, service and burial, despite the fact that we had a limited budget. They were patient, kind, and treated us like family. This is a funeral home you can trust. Thank you, Evans-Nordby.
