John Phillip Wingard Sr. born August 26, 1927. He was a lifelong Republican who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1963-1972, a Potato farmer passed at the age of 93 surrounded by family. He was born in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and later moved to Champlin, Minnesota. He graduated University of Minnesota (B.A. History) 1949, held the position of Justice of the Peace, Brooklyn Center 1954-62. John originated the Wingard Farms Potato Company, a family farm for over 100 years. John said he married “a peach,” the late Clarine Titrud Wingard, they were married 65 years. She became his partner not just in marriage, but in the farm business. They enjoyed plentiful celebrations with their family and friends. He is a faithful member of Champlin United Methodist Church, and a member of Shriners International. John is survived by his children, John Jr (Catherine) of Bemidji, MN, Thomas (LuAnn) of Elk River, MN, Karla (Charles Miller), of Winter Park, CO, Michael (Elizabeth) of Elk River, MN. Many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. John maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 5-7 PM at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 Second St NE, Osseo, Minnesota and one-hour prior to service at church. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Champlin United Methodist Church, 921 Downs Road, Champlin, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Champlin United Methodist Church, 921 Downs Road, Champlin, MN 55316 or Shriners Hospital for Children, Minnesota. The family would like to give a special thanks to his nurse Barb and caregiver Lowell who gave such compassionate care for many years and in his time of need.
