Jewell, Kathleen L.
Kathy Jewell passed away after a long struggle with brain cancer on March 13, 2020 surrounded by many family members including her loving husband Merlin. Kathy was born June 1, 1950 and lived the majority of her life in the Minneapolis area. She graduated in 1969 from Cooper High School in Crystal. After college and while working as an office assistant she met the love of her life Merlin, and was married in 1982. Together they raised three children, Amy, Tim and Jessica.
Kathy and Merlin enjoyed traveling and cruising, and made many journeys throughout the world. They golfed together and spent time with many friends and family. Kathy was an avid crafter, which included cross stitch, knitting, sewing and quilting. She was an excellent cook and shared many recipes with others.
Kathy showed her deep love for people by her involvement in many groups; often creating them and then leading them. These included groups of quilters, her church family, charity work and of course, groups of friends having fun. Kathy was an instant friend to all she met. She had an infectious smile and was known for her unforgettable blue eyes. She always took time to encourage and inspire others.
Kathy and Merlin have a large extended family and she was a wonderful wife, an awesome grandmother, treasured sister, favorite aunt, exceptional niece, special cousin and most of all - a deeply loved Mother.She always put family first, and hosted countless family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney and Delone Langum. She spent many selfless hours helping to care for them in their later years, often traveling across the country when they needed her help.
Kathy is survived by her husband Merlin; children, Amy (Scott) Rich, Tim Johnson, Jessica Floding; daughter-in-law Christine Johnson; grandchildren, Stephanie (Josh), Michael, Kennedy, Jax, Jacob, Abi and Alex; siblings, Carol Hegland, Kyle (Dedra) Langum, Kristin (Dennis) Zook, Kirk (Patty) Langum and Karla Langum, many other relatives, and countless friends.
The funeral service will be held at a later date at Advent Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, Minnesota.
