Obituary for Kim (Bjelde) Swanson

Kim (Bjelde) Swanson, age 64, passed away October 24, 2024. Funeral service on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Maple Grove, 7401 County Road 101, Maple Grove, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Inurnment at Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Maple Grove, MN.

Kim was born on August 15, 1960 in Minneapolis, MN. As a child the family lived in North Platte, NE, Grand Forks, ND and Moorhead, MN. When she was 14, the family moved to Burnsville, MN, where she enjoyed her junior and senior high school years. She was very involved in church activities at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. It was during a youth church trip to New Orleans that she met her future husband, Curt.

She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, in 1982 with a BA in English and furthered her degree in Social Work at Augsburg College. Upon completion of her studies, she and Curt married in 1983. Curt's career in the military gave them the opportunity to live in several states. After the wedding they moved to Falls Church, VA, and soon thereafter their fist son Jason was born. The transferred to Rapid City, SD, where daughter Melissa joined the family and then on to Grand Forks, ND, where son Christian was born. After Curt's retirement from the Air Force, they made their home in Rogers, MN in 2003.

In addition to being at home with the children, Kim was able to find time to practice part-time as a nurse's aide, participate as a soccer mom and support all of her family's activities. She loved to decorate her home for all seasons and took the time to cross stitch pieces to make their home cozy. As an Alumna of Concordia, the family travelled to numerous Homecoming weekends and a highlight for her was attending the annual Concordia Christmas Concert. Kim had a very close relationship with her parents and they visited often in person or across the miles by phone. She loved travelling and trips to Norway in particular to visit Melissa were a great treat.

Kim's life with her family was precious to her. Curt was the love of her life and she cherished her children, Jason, Melissa and Christian.

Kim is survived by her husband, Curt; son, Jason; daughter, Melissa; son, Christian; brother, Scott (Sarah) Bjelde. She is preceded in death by parents, Jerry & Bev.
