Lowell George Mattila, age 93, of Rogers, MN died September 13, 2022 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River. Lowell was born February 23, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George and Illa (Kivisto) Mattila.
In his late teen years Lowell’s family moved to Los Angeles. Lowell’s girlfriend, Beverly Jobes, ran away from home to be with Matt (Lowell’s nickname). Together they went to California. Lowell found work at the Friden Calculating Machine Company as a repairman. He and Beverly were married in Yuma, Arizona on June 3, 1948. Their daughter Lynn was born in Glendale, California that year. In 1952 Lowell and Beverly moved back to Minnesota, settled in Osseo, and in 1954 daughter Debra was born.
Lowell had various jobs during his work years. He transitioned into sales at Friden/Singer; worked in sales for a business supply start-up: VisiCorp; sales clerk at Luggage World; luggage store owner in Melbourne, FL; and custodian at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN.
Beverly died on January 28, 1992. Lowell married Cora Rogers on November 12, 1994. After their marriage the couple moved to Rogers. Cora died on April 18, 2015.
Lowell was an active, long time member of Osseo United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading. He was an avid fisherman, spending many summer days on Minnesota lakes. (At one point he built a row boat.) Lowell enjoyed social activities including playing cards. In his youth Lowell rode an Indian motorcycle.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; brother, Dean Mattila; infant great-granddaughter, Susannah Wurm; and niece, Diane Freese.
He is survived by daughters, Lynn Kidder (Steve) and Debra Bohle (Frank); grandchildren, Aaron Wurm, Anne Rice (Blake), Alex Wurm (Ashley Schulte), Amber McCreath (James), Jolyn Green (Matt), Benjamin Kidder (Jian Xu), and Isaac Kidder; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Declan Wurm; Jack and Max Rice, Taylor, Madison, and Scarlett Wurm; Henry and Edward McCreath; Chase, Pierce, and Finn Green; Sebastian and Ava Kidder; nieces, Sandy Mattila and Julie Burchette; special friend, Judy Hanson; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Lowell Mattila is Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Osseo United Methodist Church, 16 - 2nd Ave. S.E., Osseo, MN with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Reception following the service. Interment at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Crystal, MN. Memorials may be given to Osseo United Methodist Church; Word of Peace Lutheran Church, Rogers; or the American Cancer Society.
