Obituary for Melvin Peterson

Melvin J. Peterson, Jr., known for his sharp sarcasm and playful humor, passed away suddenly on October 26th, leaving a legacy of joy and resilience. Devoted husband to Julie and loving father of Laurel (Mike) and William (Tracy), Melvin was a doting grandfather to Rose, Peter, Gideon and Kyla. Brother to Sharon and Deborah, his memories and teachings remain indelible in the hearts of his family.

Melvin proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, a commitment that formed a special bond with his nephew Jeremy, with whom he shared naval stories and deployment tales. In this professional life, Mel stood out as a successful attorney, navigating the intricacies of the law with tenacity.

An avid sport enthusiast, Mel's heart beat vigorously for Notre Dame football and the Minnesota Vikings. But his true passion was golf-a game he graciously introduced and taught to every family member.

Mel found joy in life's simple pleasures, be it a fine cigar, a soulful tune on his guitar, or spirited debates about his favorite sports teams. His love for music was only matched by his love for family.

In remembrance of Melvin, a celebration of his life will be scheduled later this spring. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. His memories remain lasting in the hearts of his family and everyone he impacted.

It is a place of compassion, sincerity, professionalism, and staff who go above and beyond their call of duty. Our family has sadly used both chapels over the past months. The caring did not stop after the services. They offer their continued compassion to adults and children. With grateful hearts thank you.
