Sarah Mary Louise (Long) Ketter
February 09, 1932 – April 30, 2017
Preceded in death by her husband, James Ketter; parents, Aloysius and Elsie Long; three brothers, Charles, Robert and John Long.
The family left to look back fondly on her memory are her daughter, Kathryn (Michael) Carter; grandchildren, Jesse Carter and Misty (Zach) Avery; great-granddaughter, Alexis Avery; and sister, Edie (Steve) Reynolds.
Sarah was born to Elsie and Allie Long February 9, 1932 in Aitkin County “back in the woods”. She went to a one room school house until 1943. Then she started school at Finlayson and graduated in 1950 as Valedictorian. She married James Ketter January 23, 1954 in Minneapolis. Sarah helped her husband farm for 10 years outside of Finlayson. Later she worked at the Finlayson Cooperative as a bookkeeper, among other jobs.
She was very active in the Finlayson Methodist Church and later in the Rutledge Community Church in the Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday school and as their bookkeeper. Both Jim and Sarah were active in the Finlayson Seniors and took road trips to see other parts of the country.
The death of her husband, Jim, in 1998 affected her greatly. Living by herself, she started having mini strokes, and moved into the Finlayson Manor in 2003. She then began having symptoms of Alzheimer’s and moved to Crystal Care Nursing home in the fall of 2007 until her passing.
Her love of family was very evident. Some of the things Sarah enjoyed were being outside in nature and photographing nature. She loved gardening and growing flowers. Her love of Christ shown through all she did and how she lived.

I highly recommend the team at Evans Nordby. This past weekend, they assisted as we buried my mom. Twelve years ago, they assisted as we buried my dad. Brittney and the staff are so comforting, easy to work with and compassionate. They make every decision simple, and the whole process as painless as possible. I am so happy that we chose this funeral home, and encourage you to consider using them in your time of need.
