Obituary for Steven Guckeen

Steven Guckeen, age 75, of Champlin. Passed away in Mesa, Arizona on March 7th, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Margaret (Mayer) and brother, Richard "Dick". Steve was born on October 1st, 1944 in Austin, MN. He grew up in Austin, MN where he attended Pacelli High School.

He married his high school sweetheart, Joan, on September 26, 1964. After attending Mankato State University, Steve had a successful career in sales. He and Joan raised three kids together in Brooklyn Center. Steve dedicated time to coaching the teams on which they played including baseball, softball, and football. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was known to make his grandkids laugh, give lots of hugs and attended so many of their events that his grandkids’ friends tended to know him on a first name basis.

He enjoyed the Vikings, Twins and fantasy football. He was known to say he’d like the Vikings to be his pallbearers at this funeral so they could let him down one last time, but he loved that team through thick and thin. Steve’s favorite pastime was golf. He could be found at his second home Daytona Golf Club golfing, playing cards or telling stories and jokes, usually a combination of all three.

Steve is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan (Fairfield); children, Amy (Neil) Jennissen, Renee (Dave) Garrison, and Mike (Raquel) Guckeen; grandchildren, Matt, Amanda, Clayton, Courtney, Trevor, Anna, Taylor, and Tyler; and 3 great grandchildren, Amber, Lucy, and Charlie.

Steve’s family and friends will miss his funny stories, anecdotes, jokes and good company. He will be greatly missed.

In light of concerns regarding the community spread of CVID-19 the visitation, mass, and interment will be private. A Celebration of Steve's Life will be scheduled at a later date.

These people are wonderful. They went over and above in every possible way to help us with funeral arrangements, the visitation, service and burial, despite the fact that we had a limited budget. They were patient, kind, and treated us like family. This is a funeral home you can trust. Thank you, Evans-Nordby.
