It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our father, Walter (Wally) Couture on January 13th, 2024.
Born to Alcid and Mary Couture on October 17th 1938, Wally was the youngest of 7 children. In 1956 he graduated a proud Anoka Tornado, where he wrestled and played football for his high school teams. In the fall, he enlisted in the Navy reserve, spending most of this time at USNAS Patuxent River, Maryland until October 1959, when he received his honorable discharge. After returning home, he had a short enrollment at Dunwoody Institute, before beginning his career with Northern States Power Company, now Xcel Energy. A career that spanned more than 40 years.
An avid hunter of deer, antelope, waterfowl and pheasants he rarely turned down an opportunity to be outdoors. He loved a weekend of camping and canoeing with friends and family. In time, softball tournaments gave way to a good game of golf and he spent early mornings perfecting his game. Always with a love of classic cars, he eventually found his favorite, the Chevy Corvair. Whether it was a coupe or convertible, truck or wagon, he owned them all. He became an active member of the Corvair Club of Minnesota, serving as treasurer and an ambassador for the car model at every car show.
His favorite cup of coffee and slice of pie was found at Hudy’s Cafe, where he was a regular at the counter, taking in the company of good friends. When at home, he enjoyed the companionship of his loyal dog by his side.
Wally was an incredibly kind and giving person, generous with his time and multitude of talents. He lived an extraordinary life blessed with many lifelong friends.
Wally is survived by his children, Daniel Couture, Stephen Couture, Ronald Couture (MaryEllen), Julie Bonello (Michael) and Kristine Reid (Michael); and his 8 grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah, Rachel Couture, Sophie and Eli Couture, Garret, Kelsey and Mia Bonello; sister, Leona Hannick (Jack); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Alcid Couture; brothers, Earl, Allen and Donald Couture; and sisters, Eleanor Dehn and Beatrice Couture.
Wally’s family would like to express their immense gratitude to Guardian Angels Engle Haus of Albertville for their outstanding care.
In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Hospital or the ASPCA.

Brooklyn Center,
It is a place of compassion, sincerity, professionalism, and staff who go above and beyond their call of duty. Our family has sadly used both chapels over the past months. The caring did not stop after the services. They offer their continued compassion to adults and children. With grateful hearts thank you.
